Toilet flushing accounts for 1/3 of water used in the home today.
One toilet flush using an older style toilet uses 14 litres of water. However, the newer dual flush models use as little as 2.6 and 4 litres per flush, so only 20% compared with older toilets.

Another way to save water is by using a cistern displacement device so that the volume of water in your flush is reduced by between 1 – 3 litres.

A completely eco alternative and often used in places where there is no water is a composting toilet.
